5.7 vortec distributor timing1/10/2024 How many miles are on this thing? What's been done on it? I have a 98 chevy k1500 suburban 5.7L like yours but, a 4wd suburban. I've replaced every single one of these pieces and haven't heard my baby pur like it does only today, and thats since I even first got it. You can also test the camshaft solenoid on the distributor with an ohmmeter. But you wouldn't know until you've gone through these tests. They don't get that bad but that also depends on where you drive it and how often.Īlso have you done compression tests? Combustion tests to check for combustion gasses in your radiator? Other combustion tests to see if coolant is flowing into your chambers? You could have head gasket issues causing missfires. I mean you can shoot air the damn thing to clear those vent things. What has you convinced it's your distributor? Is it making an absurd clicking noise? Super rough idle or stalling? Can you be more specific? Have you tried going in and tightening the rotor a little bit? Also check it for wear? You can test valves and solenoids and sensors using an ohmmeter/voltmeter. This is coming from someone chasing the same thing as you but somewhat different. Poor fuel pressure, old plugs and wires, clogged fuel injectors or just old/warn out, EGR Valve, IAC Valve, throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, air/vaccum issues, failing fuel pump. Random missfire can be a litany of things dude. Has anyone had success with this and is there anything else I should be wary of? I've read that replacing the OEM distributor with a billet distributor seems to solve the issue for others. I'm wondering if any of you have encountered this issue and have made any changes to solve the issue. I've done some research online and found that is likely a ventilation issue of the distributor, leading to moisture building up and then corrosion. I checked the engine code and it is the dreaded P0300 that is related to random misfires. I believe it's about 6 months after the last time changing it, meaning they're failing every 6 months. Replacing the distributor fixed my issue but now the issue has returned. The mechanic who changed the distributor last stated that the distributor was corroded and needed to be changed. In those two years I've done a full tune up once and had to replace the distributor twice due to misfire codes. So I've had the truck for about 2 years now.
